Geotextile Applications

Can a geotextile be a sports star? The last couple of decades have seen tremendous growth in athletic programs across the nation. The overwhelming demand led to unprecedented use of existing sports fields. The result was a decline in the quality of these field surfaces due to the overuse.

It became obvious that new facilities were needed. In addition, these facilities would need to have playing surfaces that could withstand the frequent use. Furthermore, existing stadiums would need to be retrofitted with these newer, tougher surfaces.

In response, innovative companies introduced more stable and durable natural grass and synthetic grass playing surface systems that incorporated a geotextile as a drainage component.

Drainage is a critical component of any successful playing field surface installation. Lightweight and medium weight nonwoven geotextiles and composite drains incorporating a geotextile are being installed with much success as a part of these new systems.
