A construction fabric is quite simply a
geotextile. As the term indicates, geotextiles are indeed "textiles" or fabrics. As such, the term geotextile and construction fabric are often used interchangeably. Additionally, road fabric, filter fabric and geofabric are all commonly used to refer to various types of geotextiles.
As the geotextile industry grew to include new geosynthetic products such as geogrids, cellular confinement and composite drains, the term construction fabric was broadened to include these products as well. Construction fabric is now a catch-all term that includes any geotextile, geogrid, geomembrane or geosynthetic used in construction applications.
