Installation Guideline: Landscape Fabric
- Completely remove or kill all existing weeds from the planting area. The use of a post-emergence systemic herbicide, such as Roundup® may be helpful. The application of a pre-emergent weed killer such as Preen® is also recommended.
- Roll out the fabric (either side up) and cut with a razor knife or quality scissors to the size required.
- For existing plants, cut the fabric to fit around the the base of the plant and make sure to leave sufficient room for future growth.
- For new plantings, cut an "X" in the fabric large enough to allow planting of the root ball.
- Where two ends meet an overlap is required; use a minimum of 2-3 inches.
- Remove any loose soil, etc from the top of the fabric with a brush or broom.
- Cover the fabric with 3-4 inches of your favorite mulch.
- Make sure the fabric is completely covered with mulch. Should an area become exposed, re-apply much to that area.
- Apply the Preen to the top of the mulch to prevent weeds from growing in the mulch.
- Reapplication of Preen every 3 months may be required.
- Enjoy years of low maintenance gardening!
