Installation Guideline: Landscape Fabric

  1. Completely remove or kill all existing weeds from the planting area. The use of a post-emergence systemic herbicide, such as Roundup®  may be helpful. The application of a pre-emergent weed killer such as Preen® is also recommended.
  2. Roll out the fabric (either side up) and cut with a razor knife or quality scissors to the size required.
  3. For existing plants, cut the fabric to fit around the the base of the plant and make sure to leave sufficient room for future growth.
  4. For new plantings, cut an "X" in the fabric large enough to allow planting of the root ball.
  5. Where two ends meet an overlap is required; use a minimum of 2-3 inches.
  6. Remove any loose soil, etc from the top of the fabric with a brush or broom.
  7. Cover the fabric with 3-4 inches of your favorite mulch.
  8. Make sure the fabric is completely covered with mulch. Should an area become exposed, re-apply much to that area.
  9. Apply the Preen to the top of the mulch to prevent weeds from growing in the mulch.
  10. Reapplication of Preen every 3 months may be required.
  11. Enjoy years of low maintenance gardening!
