Wick Drain Geotextile

wick drain sticher

US Fabrics is the exclusive distributor in the United States and Canada for DuPont™ SF spunbonded, nonwoven geotextiles. Dupont SF40 spunbond is the preferred geotextile for use in the manufacturing of wick drains, also known as prefabricated vertical drains (PVD's).

Dupont's patented spunbond production technique delivers the unique properties and uniform quality that make them the perfect choice for companies manufacturing wick drains. Ounce for ounce, spunbond geotextiles deliver more tensile strength and tear strength than needle-punched nonwovens. Spunbond geotextiles outperform needle-punch nonwovens in resisting installation damage, resulting in a longer service life.

  • SF 40 spunbond nonwoven preferred for wick drains
  • Custom widths and lengths for any PVD product
  • Product stocked in the United States
  • Large inventory

Prefabricated vertical drains (PVD's) are one method used to accelerate the consolidation of soft, compressible soils. They are manufactured from a flexible, polypropylene core with drainage grooves or channels. The core is wrapped in a spunbonded, geotextile filter fabric such as DuPont SF40. They are then installed vertically into the soil with the use of a specialized machine called a stitcher. The PVD is installed with a backhoe or crane with an attached vertical mast housing with a mandrel holding the wick drain. The mandrel hydraulically pushes or vibrates the wick drain into the ground and then is withdrawn back into the mast, leaving the wick drain in place.

US Fabrics provides SF40 spunbond geotextile to manufacturers of wick drains in the custom widths and lengths required for their specific PVD system. We keep a large inventory of Dupont spunbonds in both GA and TN. Both facilites can slit and reroll to the desired size.
