Geotextiles & DOT Specifications

JAN 2019

NYDOT

US FABRICS GEOTEXTILES ARE ON THE NYDOT APPROVED MATERIALS LIST. US FABRICS IS ALSO NTPEP/AASHTO COMPLIANT. GEOGRIDS ARE SPECIFIED PROJECT SPECIFIC WITH NO APPROVED PRODUCTS LIST.

New York DOT follows AASHTO M288 guidelines, but approves geotextile products that exceed the AASHTO standard specifications. Please see the Approved Materials List for the full compliment of US Fabrics products approved for use by NYDOT.

The 2014 Standard Specifications state: "All geotextiles, including those sold under a private label agreement, being submitted for testing and approval must be submitted through the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) National Transportation Product Evaluation Program (NTPEP)." However, they also state "The Department maintains a Quality Assurance (QA) program for geosynthetics. For monitoring purposes, the Geotechnical Engineering Bureau (GEB) will test a sample of the geosynthetic material delivered to the project site . . ."

The big change for 2014 is the addition of a Class 2 nonwoven option for Separation. NYDOT also utilizes an updated standard specifications page to help match the project letting date with the effective specification for that date. Below are US Fabrics' geotextile products approved for use by New York DOT, listed by their application.
