Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD's) Geotextile

wick drain sticher

US Fabrics is the exclusive distributor in the United States and Canada for DuPont™ SF spunbonded, nonwoven geotextiles used for prefabricated vertical drain (PVD's) manufacturing. Different types of PVD's are manufactured for specific applications. Dupont SF40 spunbond is the preferred weight (4oz) geotextile for use in the manufacturing of the types of PVD's, known as Wick Drains, Earthquake Drains and Chimney Drains.

DUPONT SPUNDBOND GEOTEXTILES FOR PVD MANUFACTURING

Dupont's patented spunbond production technique delivers the unique properties and uniform quality that make them the perfect choice for companies requiring a geotextile for prefabricated vertical drain manufacturing. Ounce for ounce, spunbond geotextiles deliver more tensile strength and tear strength than needle-punched nonwovens. Spunbond geotextiles outperform needle-punch nonwovens in resisting installation damage, resulting in a longer service life.

  • SF 40 spunbond nonwoven for manufacturing prefabricated vertical drains (PVD's)
  • Wick Drains, Chimney Drains, Earthquake Drains
  • Custom widths and lengths for any PVD product
  • Product stocked in the United States
  • Large inventory

GEOTEXTILES FOR WICK DRAIN MANUFACTURING

A type of Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) known as Wick Drains, are a successful product used to accelerate the consolidation of soft, compressible soils. They are manufactured from a flexible, polypropylene core with drainage grooves or channels. The prefabricated drainage core is then wrapped in a spunbonded, geotextile filter fabric such as DuPont SF40. The Wick Drains are then installed vertically into the soil with the use of a specialized machine called a stitcher. The stitcher consists of a backhoe or crane with an attached vertical mast housing with a mandrel holding the Wick Drain. The mandrel hydraulically pushes or vibrates the Wick Drain into the ground and then is withdrawn back into the mast, leaving the Wick Drain in place. This tough installation environment is why most Wick Drain manufacturers prefer a spundbonded geotextile such as Dupont SF nonwovens for producing their products.

GEOTEXTILES FOR EARTHQUAKE DRAIN MANUFACTURING

Earthquake Drains minimize bearing capacity failure during an earthquake by limiting pore pressure and thereby reducing soil liquefaction. Earthquake Drains are installed by vibrating a “finned” mandrel (often a heavy gauge steel pipe) into the ground. During installation, the vibrations often compact the nearby granular soils, further helping with liquefaction mitigation. Spunbond nonwovens are also the preferred geotextile used in the manufacturing of Earthquake Drains.

GEOTEXTILES FOR CHIMNEY DRAIN MANUFACTURING

Another type of PVD known as a Chimney Drain is designed to intercept, control or divert subsurface water away from structures such as retaining walls and building foundations. Similar to Earthquake Drains and Wick Drains, they are manufactured from a polymeric core with a nonwoven geotextile attached. Chimney Drains usually move water to a collection system or outlet pipe, so it can be diverted away from the structure.

US FABRICS SUPPLIES CUSTOM DUPONT SF ROLL SIZES TO PVD MANUFACTURERS

US Fabrics currently provides manufacturers of Wick Drains, Earthquake Drains and Chimney Drains our DuPont SF Nonwovens in the custom widths and lengths required for their specific manufacturing process. We keep a large inventory of Dupont spunbonds in both GA and TN. Both facilities can slit and reroll to the desired size. We often stock required custom sizes to allow for quick shipping. If you are a PVD manufacturer in need of a nonwoven to manufacture your Wick Drains or Earthquake Drains, reach out to US Fabrics to discuss your width, length and physical product property requirements!
