Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL)

Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL)

SKAPS ClayArmorTM Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL's) consist of a uniform layer of sodium bentonite clay needle-punched between a carrier geotextile (bottom) and a cap geotextile (top). Scrim reinforcement and various geotextile weight combinations provide options to meet the specific demands of your project's application.

SKAPS Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL's) act as a high-performance hydraulic barrier in applications including landfills, mining, impoundments and ponds. The clay in a GCL dramatically swells when subjected to ground water and moisture. The geosynthetic layer confines the clay as it swells to create a highly dense barrier with extremely low permeability. Due to bentonite's expansive nature, it can function as a self-sealing mechanism to fill in areas where punctures or overlaps occur.

  • Landfills: Provides a barrier to prevent toxic leachate and gases from escaping.
  • Water Containment: Prevents water seepage in lakes, ponds and canals.
  • Mining: Contains toxic runoff from tailing ponds and heap leach pads.

SKAPS ClayArmorTM WL

SKAPS WL GCL consists of high-quality sodium bentonite core with a 3 oz/yd2 woven carrier geotextile with a 3 oz/yd2 nonwoven geotextile caps. SKAPS WL GCL is intended for use as a hydraulic barrier in non-critical applications.

SKAPS ClayArmorTM WN

SKAPS WN GCL consists of high-quality sodium bentonite core with a 3 oz/yd2 woven carrier geotextile with a 6 oz/yd2 nonwoven geotextile cap. Providing a peel strength from 3.5 lb/in to 5.3 lb/in., SKAPS WN GCL is intended for use as a hydraulic barrier in projects with moderate to high loads and critical slope stability applications.

SKAPS ClayArmorTM SN

SKAPS SN GCL consists of high-quality sodium bentonite core with a 6 oz/yd2 scrim-nonwoven carrier geotextile with a 6 oz/yd2 nonwoven geotextile cap. Providing a peel strength from 3.5 lb/in to 12 lb/in., SKAPS SN GCL is intended as a hydraulic barrier in projects with moderate to very high loads and critical slope stability applications.
